Chaos Construction: Internal X-Sums

(Published on 11. July 2022, 23:23 by KNT)

Place the numbers from 1 to 9 exactly once in every row, column, and region. Some numbers are already given. Each region is orthogonally connected and must be located by the solver.

A digit X in a cell containing a number N in its top left corner indicates that cell sees X digits in its region and that those digits sum to N, where region borders obstruct vision. A question mark can be any positive integer.

Very fun puzzle!
Neat ruleset, some interesting interactions and cool geometry. Not too tricky, either - one of your easier Chaos Constructions.

Lovely puzzle, thanks. I made some headway but then struggled yesterday but when I came back to it today it fell into place surprisingly smoothly.

Really nice and reasonably smooth solve. Excellently selected clues!

I had such a fun time solving this, it's absolutely my favourite puzzle from you! The opening logic was stellar (beautiful telegraphing), and the flow throughout was very satisfying. Thank you!

Such an impressive construction with so little clues. The deductions were really satisfying, thanks :)

Really amazing puzzle! I thought for sure the break in would stump me but I'm so glad I stuck with it!

Great puzzle! When I first read the rules, I couldn't imagine that it would solve. Very well set!

——

Would you believe me if I told you it (while not really humanable) was still unique with the 23 and 24 as “?” clues instead? :)

--------------------

Wow, that is amazing! I guess those clues were a bit less important in the solve than the others, but still quite unbelievable!

Fantastic! Loved the region construction logic. Thanks KNT! Your setting productivity and quality is remarkable. :)

----

I assure you, the frequency at which you solve is far more remarkable :)

----

Haha, thank you! =^_^=

Great puzzle again ! When I saw your comment on jovi_al's puzzle the other day, I knew you'd come up with a related puzzle in no time ! But that quick ?! You're a setting machine man !!

----

I wish I could say I made this in a couple hours but she mentioned this ruleset to me last week. I set this over the course of last weekend, so I don't think I qualify for the "machine" title quite yet :)

She also has made 3 puzzles with this ruleset in the meantime that I have tested, so I hope some of those end up here in the next week or so as well...

In case you (or anyone else) is curious, I set a draft of this in about 3 or 4 hours, but that draft was sadly nonunique, so I came back to it for a few hours here and there to fix it... so probably this set was about 6 or 7 hours total, which is definitely on the faster end for me. I'd say 8-10 hours is my average, though some (Aquatic Construction, Ariadne, Roadblock) have certainly taken me much longer to set.
