Zero Ate Nine

(Published on 10. July 2022, 03:00 by XeonRisq)

This is a fun little variant that has been explored at Skunkworks for the last week or so.
I plan on posting 2-3 of this puzzle type within the next week or so. Hope you enjoy...
  • Normalish sudoku rules apply.
  • All 9s in the grid have been replaced by 0s, so only the digits 0-8 are valid.
  • Numbers cannot repeat in a cage and must sum to the given total in the top left corner.

Success! And yeah, it's not the logical path, it's dumb user error. I kept making an assumption that wasn't warranted and it kept messing me up. I enjoyed this, thanks for setting

Woohoo! You made it.. It seems zero can trip you up until you get used to the digits. Nice perseverance and thanks for the solve/feedback.

Having played a lot of killer sudoku lately, this was a very fun, mind-bending puzzle to solve. Looking forward to seeing more of this variant :)

The 0 adds a surprising amount of flexibility for cage clues. I really liked having to figure out new possible cage combos after having most of them memorized for 1-9.

And you essentially nailed the reason we decided to explore this idea further. Stand by for a couple more variations with this ruleset. Thanks for the great feedback and solve.

great fun tho

Thanks for giving it a try and don't give up, you'll get there. After break-in, there should be a logical path to follow. Very happy it is enjoyable even though it's been resistant.
