AAAAAAAAA (Cipher Numbered Rooms)

(Published on 8. July 2022, 10:06 by tesseralis)

It's another cipher/BYO numbered rooms puzzle! It's called "AAAAAAAAA" because there are a lot of A clues in the grid and because that's what I was screaming internally while I set the first half of this puzzle in my head at night not being able to sleep. I think it showcases different logic than my previous puzzle with this ruleset, so check out both if you like the constraint!

Rules

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Each grey square contains an even digit.
  • Digits cannot repeat along the marked diagonal.
  • Clues outside the grid indicate the digit which has to be placed in the Nth cell in the corresponding direction, where N is the digit placed in the first cell in that direction. Each letter represents a different digit.

Solve on

Solution code: Row 5, then Column 5

What an insane puzzle, in the most brutal fun kind of way! Thanks for setting and sharing, @ tesseralis:).

Surprisingly, I didn't find it too hard and therefore didn't have to scream once. That was quite unexpected. :)

A really nice puzzle.

Another great numbered rooms puzzle! I had a lot of fun solving it.

Super nice puzzle, a tad easier than the other one I'd say, but that might be because the ruleset was still fresh in my mind. I gave this 3 for difficulty, 5 for beauty.

I had to change my colouring strategy half way through the solve, but once I did the switch it flowed nicely till the end.

That is a well designed puzzle, but I didn't find it that hard. It had some beautiful interactions/moments with the diagonal tho. Thanks for sharing this puzzle!

I'm surprised this has only 9 solves. Granted it took me a long time to get started, but that's because I kept making 1 very very stupid mistake over and over again. I actually started typing out asking where my logic was wrong, and by typing it out I realized my mistake. Other than that the puzzle was kinda smooth sailing...

Cool logic, def enjoyed

Thank you @hepcecob! I'm glad you liked it. I had to take the puzzle down because of a logical leap and repost it, and by then it was off the first page, which may explain the lack of solves. Feel free to spread the word and tell your friends though :) ~tess

Great puzzle! I wrestled with it for 4 hours before you fixed it and still I had to give it a second try. Really great logic, especially the final big step! Thank you
