Chaos Construction: Oenopion's Revenge

(Published on 3. July 2022, 10:13 by Niverio)

This puzzle is a tribute to my favorite C.C. puzzle of all time, Ariadne by KNT. We have been friends on Discord for a long time, and he has been urging me to set a puzzle with Ariadne's ruleset. After a few weeks of convincing (mainly because I respected the original so much) , I sat down and got down to work, and this is the result. It is a difficult puzzle (involving lots of region geometry logic, KNT's specialty), but definitely isn't my hardest creation to date. Hopefully KNT and all the other users of the platform will enjoy solving, and find this a fitting tribute.

Rules:

- Normal Chaos Construction rules apply. Place the digits 1-9 in every single row, column and region. Regions are orthogonally connected and have to be determined.
- A digit in a clued cell indicates the number of cells seen in the indicated directions combined (including itself). Region borders obstruct vision.
If there is any ambiguity about the ruleset, the main puzzle Ariadne has a very nice example puzzle attached to it, called Oenopion, and it's where this puzzle's name stems from.

Beautiful puzzle. But it is easy to make wrong conclusions.

Extremely satisfying and very clever construction! The ending was funny but I actually like how R7C3 and R5C7 impacted the solve in the later half ;)

Difficult to judge which one is harder. Surely, both were very nice and have been immensely enjoyed. Thanks

Wonderful puzzle, I think this is harder than mine of the same ruleset, but that didn’t stop me from enjoying it immensely! Logic in the bottom left of the grid is very nice

Very nice, pure Chaos Construction. The ruleset is very similar to the one in Stephane Bura’s original Compass Sudoku, which is the first puzzle in one of my favorite series on this site. :-D
