Liar Fillomino

(Published on 16. June 2022, 03:40 by KNT)

Divide the grid into orthogonally connected regions, and enter into each cell the size of the region the cell belongs to. No two regions of the same size may share an edge. For each type of clue, exactly one occurence must not be correctly satisfied. The clue types are as follows:

A gray square must contain an even number.

A white dot separates two consecutive numbers.

A black dot separates two numbers that are in a ratio of 1 to 2.

Adjacent numbers along a green line must differ by at least 5.

Numbers along a red line form a consecutive sequence, but the sequence might not be in order along the line.

A thick grey line with a circle at one end is called a thermometer. Numbers along a thermometer must strictly increase as you travel away from the circled end.

Numbers along an arrow must sum to the number in the attached circle.

Treat each number N as a building of height N. A clue outside the grid indicates the number of buildings seen from from that direction, where taller buildings hide equal or shorter buildings.

If I had not done a few fillominos before, I would have thought I had broken it around the end... but I kinda knew it would end up being about a weird configuration ! Just amazing how this solves and how every type of clue fulfills its own role in getting the puzzle forward. Thanks for this beauty KNT !

Very fun puzzle to solve!

Very cool puzzle, I especially liked the ending! I was convinced that I broke it for 20 minutes straight, but it was very satisfying once I figured out how it works.

I was quite scared of this one, but in the end it turned out to be a hugely enjoyable puzzle!

Green and red lines are quite difficult to differentiate for color blind folks. Am I correct that r5c2, r5c5, and r6c2 are renban lines, with the third line only being 2 digits i.e. the rest is green?

----

Hi @ascension, yes, you are correct. Sorry about the color choices, penpa doesn't have too many of them for lines. For future reference, what colors are good contrast for color blind people?

----

Of the options in Penpa, the black and light blue worked best for me. Using different patterns would might be better, though.

Regardless, I enjoyed the puzzle!

Absolutely amazing, really loved that ending, and several deductions throughout.

Incredible puzzle, worked out like an intricate timepiece. Never before have I been so convinced that I'd broken a puzzle when I hadn't. The one tip I would give to potential solvers is not to try this puzzle in a sudoku frame of mind. It is not a sudoku, it is a fillomino, which is a different beast and does not have the same constraints!

Fantastic puzzle! Great to see some more Fillomino variants, and this one was very interesting and well constructed. I really enjoyed the ending in particular!

One can easily loose his mind figuring out the truth about the last regions. Very well hidden finale. thanks.

Lovely! Very interesting logic. Also easy to make mistakes in this one. Future solvers: double and triple check your deductions!
Thanks KNT :)

A lovely puzzle! It felt like a really linear solution path; everything follows nicely step by step, but definitely not in a predictable way, which makes it exciting.

You made me solve my first fillo with a puzzle like this, Mr. Evil. Yet it was a fascinating solve, and indeed not too difficult considering it took me only 1 hour. Very enjoyable!
