Thermo variant #40: Readable Thermos
(Published on 27. June 2022, 14:00 by djorr)
I've made a few thermo variants. All are standard thermo sudokus + an extra rule. Check out the others using the following link:
Thermo Variant Series puzzles
Rules: Normal sudoku rules apply. Along thermometers, digits must increase from the bulb end.
Variant: If you add up the digits along a thermometer, the value will be a two-digit number. The digits of this number must appear on that same thermo, with the ten's digit closer to the bulb and the one's digit closer to the tip.
Examples:
The thermo 2-4-6-7-8 is valid because the digits sum to 27 and the thermo contains a 2 and a 7 in that order.
The thermo 1-2-5-6-7 is not valid because the digits sum to 21 and, although the digits are there, they are not in the right order.
The thermo 1-2-3-4-5 is valid because the sum is 15 and the thermo contains a 1 and a 5 in that order.

This was pretty challenging! I think the setting is great but the mental arithmetic on the thermos is a bit too hard.
I really couldn't do it without using a program to get all the options. I understood some of the math implications, but perhaps there was a trick I missed...

Thanks for the feedback zegres! I will put a hidden comment here to explain some of the logic. There is definitely some tricks to notice when solving these thermos.
