Blackadder

(Published on 30. May 2022, 12:14 by udukos)

This puzzle is a hybrid between Region Sum lines and Snake puzzle. The inspiration for the puzzle comes from this marvelous puzzle by Abed.

Normal sudoku rules apply.

1. The cells with a clue in the top left corner represent one end of a snake. Each clue belongs to a different snake.

2. The value of the clue gives the sum of all the digits that lie on a snake. These snakes behave as region sum lines. As a snake passes through different 3 x 3 boxes, digits on the snake have an equal sum N within each box it passes through. If the snake passes through the same box more than once, then each individual segment within that box sums to N separately. The snake must pass through at least two 3 x 3 boxes. If '?' is given as a clue, then its value has to be deduced.

3. The snakes can't touch themselves orthogonally or diagonally.

4. Two snakes can't share a cell together.

Here is a 6x6 example for illustration, with a link for solving online:

It is also not said in the rules that the snakes must pass through at least two boxes (otherwise ? clues could be a single cell snake). I think this should also be clarified.

In the example it seems that two snakes can't share a square. But it isn't said in the rules.
