1-N Chaos Deconstruction: Whisper / Renban / Between

(Published on 14. May 2022, 16:49 by KNT)

Place some numbers from 1 to 9 in the grid such that no number repeats in a row or column. All numbers belong to orthgonally connected regions which must be located by the solver. Regions cannot touch each other orthogonally, but they may diagonally. A region of size N contains the numbers 1 through N exactly once.

Every cell on a line must contain a number, and each line must obey at least one of the three following properties:

1. Adjacent numbers on the line differ by at least 5.

2. The numbers on the line form a consecutive sequence and do not repeat. The sequence does not necessarily have to be in order on the line.

3. The values along the line lie strictly between the numbers on the ends of the line. A two-long line cannot obey this property.

A grey circle contains an odd digit and a grey square contains an even digit.

I love this puzzle. Signed up for suguru and got sudoku too

Well, I didn't solve that one super-fast, that's for sure ! Couldn't finish it back when it was published, but I kept it on my to-do list because I do love region logic and ambiguity, especially when combined like this. And yes, it was well worth coming back to it ! Thanks KNT !

Had to restart three times, each time finding out more logic. Quite a challenge for me. But also a great pleasure to solve. Absolutely fantastic.

This was wonderful. It took me about 3 hours, but I could have cut that down by some if I had bothered to actually do basic sudoku and counting region sizes.

A fantastic addition to the genre.

Thank you kindly, crispy. I don't blame you for missing "basic" sudoku- this puzzle has too much sudoku for my tastes, but I still am happy with how it turned out. It was a bit of an experiment for me.

This crazy f***ing thing took me DAYS to solve, JFC. So easy to make a mistake, so much logic required. I have no idea how the f any of you guys are solving this in 3 hours.

----

lmao yeah this definitely took a long time to set at the expense of some of my sanity. the final two regions kept breaking for basically humanly invisible reasons, and i spent a good 5 hours (at least) at the start understanding some general sudoku implications of the rightmost 5 or 6 columns. glad you persevered though and i hope it was enjoyable!

Very nice! My first suguru, posed quite a challenge. Thanks KNT :)

enjoyed this a lot and the solve path was very satisfying - especially when certain deductions force the type of line. thanks KNT!

Great puzzle! Very consistent in its difficulty, and everything resolves so nicely in the end. Well set!

Over 3 hours for me and I'm quite happy with that time. Absolute beast of a puzzle!

Well, this took about 19-2000 minutes. Really teaches you Humility. But you're never tempted to raise the White Flag. And the Momentary Bliss when you're done feels good.

Hopefully another ruleset will pique your interest in the future. This was a lot of fun. :)

I appreciate you sticking with it, but I appreciate the pun even more :-)

Wonderful puzzle!

Testing this live was a brutal experience. The most non-ambiguity like ambiguity puzzle which was ever created. If that's a good or bad thing, the solver has to figure out for themselves :P
