Chaos Construction: Color Mixing

(Published on 15. May 2022, 17:41 by KNT)

Place the numbers from 1 to 9 exactly once in every row, column, and region. Each region is orthogonally connected and must be located by the solver.

There are three properties: red, yellow, and blue. A colored cell obeys the properties, and only the properties, of the primary colors that compose it.

Red: the number indicates the total count of cells in the same region as itself in the surrounding 3x3 area.

Yellow: the number indicates the total count of cells not in the same region as itself in the surrounding 3x3 area.

Blue: the number indicates the number of distinct regions in the surrounding 3x3 area.
Explicitly:

Orange = Red + Yellow

Green = Yellow + Blue

Purple = Red + Blue

White (grey) = Red + Yellow + Blue

A 1-6 example is provided:

Very nice ! The hardest part for me was not mixing the color of the circles and the regions. Thanks :)

Very interesting ruleset. Regions building logic was exquisite (with some cool traps punishing for lack of attention), but I also liked that irregular sudoku part was quite challenging.

More Stuckist than Impressionist for me! Really tough and never felt I had mastered it until near the end when things came together. Very clever puzzle, thanks.

Very memorable original ruleset and a lovely solve. Criminally underrated puzzle in my opinion. Thanks! :)

Fun and original! Quite challenging for me, possibly five stars difficulty in my opinion.

Challenging! I was never completely sure of the deductions I made. Beautiful puzzle though!

Although a note, is there a way to put the circles such that the circle color doesn't change when we color the cells? It annoyed me to no end when I was coloring regions, that I had to sometimes uncolor just to remember which color the original circle was.
