inner skyscraper sandwich

(Published on 4. May 2022, 20:33 by bigger)

The idea comes from Ore.

Standard sudoku rules applies. Fill the grid with numbers from 1 to 9 so each digit occurs exactly once in every row, column and 3x3 box.

Digits outside the grid indicates the number of skyscrapers one can see from that direction. There’s only one layer of clues(in case someone might ask)

Digit on the arrow is one of digit(s) of the sum between one of the 1(s) and one of the 9(s) in the arrow direction.

All possible non-diagonal arrows are given

Skyscrapers should be easy, right? If you found this kind of clues familiar, which you should be, it’s because it’s a basic way to connect outside clues with the inside. It’s one of the things I expect from stitching up different rules. At least I won’t expect how it will become.

As for the delay, I was setting puzzles. I found it hard to get into solver mode when I set puzzles. I can’t help putting my standard onto other’s puzzles, which may let some good ideas slip away. And posting puzzles need me to be a solver to get motivated. I really miss the days when I can simply solve Old Miles’ puzzles and share what I think. However, when I set a puzzle, I know what thing I’ll use, thus ruining the surprise, and I always feels I can do better, just don’t know how.

As for this puzzle, it’s supposed to let the safety off, showing what could happen with this rule. It certainly got Old Miles, therefore a three star. One little hint, trust the skyscraper, I can’t put anything new there, yet. If I have total say about the difficulty, I would mark it a 2 star. Skyscrapers is just too useful.

And, I have a couple of ideas on how to rip off filuta’s puzzles, thus the longer delay. I really can’t set a calculation type variant. There’s always something about calculation that triggers me. More on that in future puzzle. Also, has anyone notice the amount of deactivated puzzles. I really don’t know what’s happening now

Great puzzle, thanks!

I do think the rules could be clearer. They mention "digits outside the grid", but there are no such digits provided. I think it would be clearer if the rules stated explicitly that the solver shall place those digits, and in what cells they shall be placed (in this case, in all cells ortogonally adjacent to the grid).

bigger:That's one way showing the rules. but I did mention 'digit on the arrow'. also the row 5 three arrow should be curious enough to make one figuring out what the rule is actually about. and also, simply a row/column of digits don't have 'one of'. basicly, i want the solvers to find questions and answer them. i just want to have some fun in the rules
