A clue outside the grid indicates the sum of the two numbers in the cells separated by the first region border seen when looking into the grid from the direction of the clue.

Lordy, LMD needs a 6 or 7 star rating for puzzles like this. The start was beautiful, and then it got vicious but glad I didn't give up. The satisfaction in solving a puzzle like this, for me, is proportionately greater than a 'hard' puzzle. Thanks for the epic struggle!

That was brutal, but quite a lot of fun! I loved the initial logic, my fav parts were the deductions in the lower right. Terrifying mid-solve, though. I am very grateful that it got easier near the end. Thank you :)

Very nice puzzle ! Beautiful first part. Once I saw the shape of that Valve appear on my screen, I knew I was on the right track ! And even the second part felt like an hourglass filling itself with digits, one by one, like little grains of sand...

4½ stars difficulty for me - hard but not monstrously hard. The break-in is somewhat telegraphed, though it takes quite some thought to fully understand it and its implications.
I knew right from the start that I would need to use Penpa to keep track of the possible sum combinations of each clue - and boy did I need it! Here's a link for anyone who also likes to do similar pencilmarking:
