Yin Yang Kropki Sudoku

(Published on 19. April 2022, 10:24 by Phistomefel)

This puzzle is a mix of a Yin Yang puzzle and a Kropki Sudoku, in which the color of the Kropkis is connected to the Yin Yang coloring of the involved cells.

Now for the rules of the Yin Yang Kropki Sudoku:
  1. Every row, column and marked 3x3 area contains each number from 1 to 9 exactly once.
  2. Color the cells in the grid black and white such that the set of each color is connected and that no 2x2 area is covered in only one color.
  3. The given grey dots indicate that the two connected cells have the same color. The Kropki dot takes over the color of the cells, i.e. if a grey dot is between two cells and both are black, their digits are in a 1:2 ratio, and if they are white, their digits are consecutive.
  4. All possible grey Kropkis are given.
To anticipate questions about what exactly the last rule means, here is a more detailed explanation:

At the end of the puzzle, when all the cells are colored and all the numbers are entered, two adjacent black cells may contain numbers in a ratio of 1:2 only if there is a gray Kropki between them. Similarly, two adjacent white cells may contain consecutive numbers only if there is a gray Kropki between them. The following scenarios are possible without any problems:
  1. Two consecutive numbers in adjacent black cells.
  2. Two numbers in the ratio 1:2 in adjacent white cells.
  3. Any relationship between numbers in adjacent cells with different color.
For illustration, here is an example on a 6x6 grid:

Now for the puzzle. It is also available online via Penpa Plus. Have fun solving!

I took so much pleasure progressing through that puzzle that it litterally got tears to my eyes. So smooth, so clever, that I'm lost for words... I'll just say "magic". Thank you

As I'm not familiar with Yin Yang, I had to stare at this for quite some time before I had this wonderful epiphany about a very important property that comes when you think carefully about the definition of Yin Yang ! I also liked the disambiguation between the Yin and the Yang ! This will stay in my memory for some time.

Forgot to register my solve for this one and I'd like to say that this is certainly one of the nicest puzzles from you! :)
Beautiful harmonic interplays between both types of puzzle and I really like how the solve path is full of nice subtle logics that require some careful yet not anywhere near extreme thoughts :}

Sehr coole Regelkombination.

Phenomenal puzzle. Took me a few hours but so brilliantly set and very rewarding to solve

The man, the myth, the legend does it again. The perfect puzzle to fit the constraints.

Looks incredibly hard initially (as does every Phistomefel puzzle, of course), but ends up to be just 3⅔ stars difficulty for me. And this despite me having to wander around for a while before discovering that fundamental piece of logic regarding yin-yang, which I imagine is as well known as The Secret for those who're familiar with YY. :D

Brilliant way of combining the puzzle types and a very nice solve!

Thank you so much for the nice feedback, everyone! I am very glad that you enjoyed the puzzle. I have to admit though that I once again misjudged how difficult the puzzle is.

Yin Yang is slowly becoming one of my favorite puzzle types. So I was especially happy to read that the Yin Yang part was more interesting this time than in my first Yin Yang Sudoku.

Very nice. I was stuck for over 1 hour, then I solved the 6x6, and understood the unusual yin yang logic. Thanks !

Figuring out Penpa is proving to be as much of a challenge as the puzzle itself =D

Very nice! I like the balance in difficulty between the Ying Yang logic and the Sudoku logic. This is a true mix, rather than just a Sudoku with an additional Ying Yang constraint to make it interesting.

Sehr schön.
Hab's 2x vor die Wand gefahren, da muss man echt höllisch aufpassen. Aber beim dritten Anlauf war der logische Lösungsweg dann sehr klar.
