Chaos Construction: 2nd Region X-Sums #2 (9x9)

(Published on 5. April 2022, 11:15 by Jesper)

Rules

1. Divide the grid into regions, each consisting of nine orthogonally connected cells.

2. Each row, column and region must contain the digits 1 to 9 once each.

3. For any clue outside the grid (number or question-mark):
- Let X be the first digit in the second region, seen from the direction of the clue
- Then that region occupies exactly X consecutive cells within the respective row or column, before the next boundary (or the end of the grid)
- Further, the outside clue corresponds to the sum of the digits in those X cells

4. A black diamond inside the grid denotes that the 4 digits surrounding it form a Renban group (i.e. they are non-repeating consecutive digits, in any order). All such black diamonds are given.

Example (6x6):

Penpa+: Example (6x6)

The puzzle follows:

Penpa+: Chaos Construction: 2nd Region X-Sums (9x9)

Solution code: Row 1 followed by column 9

Coming to this puzzle very late as i have been trying to improve my CC solving skills. Brilliant construction from start to finish - and i love the black dot mechanic (especially the negative constraint)

Masterful!

I made it! This was great fun. The immediate break-in was manageable, but the initial phase after that was full of traps that I kept running into. Figuring out the possibility I was missing took a while but was very fulfilling to get through. Thank you for constructing this!

Tough 4/5 star break-in, with a very smooth path afterwards, which felt more like a 3 to me, 4 stars overall indeed. Pretty cool. Thanks Jesper

Such a great puzzle from the break-in to the very end. Thank you!

There was not a single trap I didn't stumble into. Bruised and with a mouse trap around my left big toe I finally crawled to the finish line. There was some really marvelous logic in there (which I wish I had seen before storming off in the wrong direction though).

Incredible construction ! Your chaos settings have a surgical precision in them, that make for wonderful journeys along very narrow pathways... Thanks for the entertainment.

Wonderful puzzle! Not extremely hard and involves very beautiful deductions throughout the solution path. I especially loved the break-in. This puzzle was definitely much better than the first one for me.

the implications of some of the clue interactions which i did not initially understand were a big joy to finally discover. really fun and fantastic stuff, thanks Jesper!

Really a great puzzle! I found the solving path surprisingly — very pleasantly so — smooth.

Absolutely beautiful opening sequence, and then the later part as well! There're quite a lot of hidden traps here but luckily enough, I was conscious enough to ask the right questions. Magnificent work as always :)

magnifique. The solution path reads like a manual on how to lay a trap. thanks for all the fun.

Loved this one even more than the 8x8! :)
