Progressive Divisors

(Published on 3. April 2022, 21:10 by DiMono)

Normal sudoku rules apply.

Progressive Divisor numbers are numbers where the first digit is divisible by 1, the first two digits taken as a two-digit number are divisible by 2, and so on.

There is a nine digit Progressive Divisor number in row 1 of the grid, written from left to right. Each of the digits in row 1 is also in a distinct non-overlapping invisible region that sums to 3x the digit's value. These regions may branch, and digits may repeat in regions if allowed by other rules. The size and shape of these regions must be determined by the solver.

Clues outside the grid indicate the first N cells in the row/column, read from outside-in, are a Progressive Divisor number, where N is the digit in the cell next to the clue.

The cages hold two digit numbers that are either divisible by both digits (i.e. 24) or neither digit (i.e. 98).

Once again, DiMono, you've delivered a puzzle that is both mad as a box of frogs and utterly genius.

Thank you for the kind words, everyone! To those saying it's more like a 3.5-4/5 difficulty, the majority of solvers seem to disagree with you, as the current 5/5 difficulty rating is real, not provisional ;)

Very nice puzzle, thank you! Very interesting ruleset. I would agree that 3.5 or 4 stars is more appropriate.

Nice but didn't use the cage constraint. once the logic unraveled, solved smooth ... < 4*.thanks.

@marcmees: Considering the puzzle has multiple solutions without the cages, I find that highly unlikely. ;)

Very interesting! First time I used coding to help solve a puzzle. Thanks DiMono!

This puzzle was particularly challenging for me and took a while to figure out, but was well worth the investment. It was a ton of fun and I'd love to see more of this variant.
