Mind Your Step

(Published on 1. April 2022, 01:04 by Lizzy01)

Rules:

Normal sudoku rules apply.
Every pair of orthogonally adjacent cells that adds to five has been marked with a V,
every pair of orthogonally adjacent cells that adds to ten has been marked with an X,
every pair of orthogonally adjacent cells that are consecutive has been marked with a white dot,
and every pair of orthogonally adjacent cells that are in a ratio of 1:2 has been marked with a black dot.

Additionally, cells a chess kings move apart cannot contain the same digit.

Hints:

hint 1 : the joke is about the VX/kropki rules, the other rules are normal.
hint 2: the center is much more important than it looks.
hint 3: do the rules say anything about pairs of cells that do not sum to 5 or ten/ are not consecutive/in a ratio of 1:2 ?
cryptic hint: I've set a lot of puzzles, but most puzzles have not been set by me.
If you need a bigger hint feel free to ask me in a hidden comment.

There is indeed a completely logical solve path! Once you find the break in, the puzzle unfolds step by step until the last digits.
Well done!

--Thanks!
The break in was inspired by a puzzle I saw on CTC, I don't remember what it was called tho. The rest I came up with myself, because I saw normal kropki/xv rules genuinely being phrased like this and I noticed it wasn't technically saying what they meant, so I made an April fools puzzle out of it.

Totally unusual setting! Thinking out of the box (especially the breakin) was very satifying. The solving path felt like walking on a frozen lake never knowing if it breaks ... . Made for those who love to rely on intuition.

--Thanks for trying it! There is an entirely logical path through if you correctly understand the rules... which is indeed a big part of the puzzle ;)
