Balance of Power Challenge

(Published on 3. March 2022, 23:42 by Will Power)

Normal Sudoku rules apply. The numbers in SQUARES are weights of that value. The lines on the grid are treated like a balanced mobile when lines are horizontal. All weights on the lines or attached and BELOW them calculate into completing the balance. The one tipped line is showing an imbalance. Balance all weights attached to the right and left of each circled balance point. The distance to the right or left of the balance point DOES NOT figure into the calculation, only the SUM of the weights. The sum of all weights in each row and column are shown outside the grid. Example: The sum of the weights in row 2 is 39.

Yes, I absolutely took up the Nothing but Net challenge, and hit a 3-pointer!

And yes, 36-24-36, oh what a winning hand!

As for super indexing, I have done a couple puzzles like that and have noticed the pattern in the finished puzzle, but have never been able to prove why they finish up that way, so each time I need to solve it from scratch without understanding why it's as structured as it is!

I have been working through your collection in reverse order, so The Great Escape and The Great Escape II are cued up for me to tackle tonight, or tomorrow morning, or (unfortunately) in the middle of the night when I wake up and can't get back to sleep.

I look forward to Galaxy Minesweeper, as well as adding my name to the shockingly short list of Animal Farm Rebels solvers. That will be in a week or two.

What a fun puzzle! I loved every bit of it, even when I had to restart because of an error I couldn’t fix. Only 40 more puzzles until I complete the Will Power collection!!

@pms_headache Thanks so much for your interest in my puzzles! I see you have completed "Nothing But Net". Did you get the extra points, by leaving boxes 1-3 alone until you were completely done with boxes 4-9? Also, in "Brick House", did you understand the inside joke i referred to in the comments? 8-) You did "Super index", which is my second favorite that I have set. Good job on that difficult one. Two I encourage you to do, because of the uniqueness of the rules are "The Great Escape", which is my favorite that I have set, and "Galaxy Minesweeper Sudoku". Peace to you. -Will Power

You'll see that I'm commenting on June 28, the day you posted Balance of Power II. I looked for Balance I, and realized I'd never completed the solution.

I'm proud to have solved this - it was challenging. I'll go back and try Balance II now - hopefully I've learned some things. Very clever and creative concept.

Again: a very creative concept that I have never seen before - and quite tricky to figure out where to start. Shame this has not more solves!

By far the best Puzzle i have solved so far. It took me 6 Hours, but it felt like 2 (last try took 1 hour). I had to restart 3 times, cause i kept making mistakes in column 3 and row 7-9. After in finally solved every number with weights, i counted every number two times cause i wanted to be really sure everything was right. It felt so good knowing its done! After that there was no further problem and just the ending sudoku.

Loved it!

@Schesam- Very well done! You can consider yourself one of the top solvers on the website! Only 4 people have solved this one! My only regret is that I don't think enough people will solve it to give a difficulty and beauty rating. 8-( tschüss!

This is a well set puzzle with an interesting rule set. I'd love to see another where not all the column and row weights are given.

Revised temporary Little Killer clues to pure text for clarity.

In F-Puzzles you can choose the "Sandwich" mode to put in numbers without the Little Killer arrows. Just a thought for future reference.
