Heyawake — 'Old Chateau'
(Published on 22. February 2022, 09:16 by PixelPlucker)
Standard Heyawake rules apply:
- Shade some cells so that no two shaded cells are orthogonally adjacent and all unshaded cells form one orthogonally connected area.
- Numbered regions must contain the indicated amount of shaded cells.
- A line of consecutive unshaded cells may not cross more than one bold border.
You can try this puzzle online using
Penpa+ (recommended) or
puzz.link.
Here is a Penpa+ version without any thicker cosmetic borders.
Have fun!
Penpa+ controls:
Use Tab to switch between "Surface" (shading) mode and "composite-Yajilin" mode. In Surface mode, left-click to shade a cell. Right-click to mark a cell as unshaded (green). In composite-Yajilin mode, left-click to shade a cell. Right-click along an edge to mark an "x". Left-click and drag to draw a line.
General solving tip (highlight to reveal):
Use notation to your advantage! For example, consider using crosses to mark dominoes (1x2 areas) that must contain shaded cells. This will help you spot unviable arrangements of shaded cells more easily (e.g. a diagonal chain reaction that would break connectivity or another rule), without more complicated "look-ahead" or trial and error.
Solution code: The number of shaded cells in every row from top to bottom. (18 numbers in total)
