Ship's Wheel

(Published on 19. February 2022, 11:09 by Qodec)

This puzzle is another shikaku-sudoku hybrid, this time with an additional diagonal constraint. Earlier puzzles are Shikasudoku and Shikasudoku 2.

Normal digaonal sudoku rules apply: each row, each column, both indicated diagonals, and each region indicated by thick borders in the grid must contain the digits 1 to 9 once each.

Additionally, shikaku rules apply:

  • Divide the grid into rectangular regions of orthogonally connected cells. Each rectangle contains exactly one circle. A single cell with a circle counts as a 1x1 rectangle.
  • A number in a circle represents how many cells are in the rectangle the circle belongs to.
  • Rectangles cannot overlap.
  • Every cell in the grid is part of a rectangle.
  • Digits may repeat in a rectangle if allowed by other rules.

As usual for Qodec, relatively hard, but beautiful logic. Thank you.

Very nice puzzle! It’s still quite tough (for me at least) after filling in all the circles. Thank you for the treat!
