Van Helsing

(Published on 8. February 2022, 17:40 by the_cogito)

This puzzle takes direct inspiration from Vampires by grkles, which is a fantastic puzzle that I strongly recommend checking out if you haven't!

Rules:
- Normal Sudoku rules apply.
- Pink lines are renban lines, and must contain a set of unique consecutive digits in any order.
- One of the digits 1-9 is a vampire digit, and does not contribute towards any of the renban lines its on in the whole grid. This digit is effectively skipped by any renbans it appears on, and if the digits above or below it are both on a renban line, those digits should be treated as consecutive.
- Cells separated by a black kropki dot must contain digits in a 2:1 ratio.

Note that, as usual, non-vampire digits may not repeat along a renban line.

Below is a smaller example puzzle along with its solution, which should help clarify how this vampire digit affects the renban logic. The vampire digit for this example is given underneath the main puzzle below.

You can try the example puzzle on f-puzzles or the CTC app

And now for the main puzzle. Enjoy!

Very inventive use of a fun ruleset. I had not looked at Vampires before but will do so now. Skillful use of geometry in this one. Great fun!

Once I managed to understand that very twisted ruleset, this puzzle was a real delight all the way ! Thanks !

That was very tricky, but so enticing that failing multiple times never stopped me from trying again! Thank you kindly.

Really neat logic! Took me quite a while to work through how the lines worked with each other, and how to narrow down the Vampire number. Very nice puzzle.

Brilliant puzzle! I knew where I needed to start the break-in but that pesky vampire had me second guessing myself a lot.

Made a logical mistake and was fortunate to catch it later through another piece of logic.

@grkles: Count von Count counts of course, for he does nothing but. That's funny! :D

Since these are renban lines, I think this vampire is like the one on Sesame Street!

He doesn't count, you say? I beg to disagree.

Very easy to get your head messed with by the vampire digit. Tight construction and very rewarding puzzle!
