Numbered Rooms Sudoku

(Published on 24. January 2022, 19:19 by Qodec)

  • Normal sudoku rules apply: each row, column, and region indicated by thick borders in the grid must contain the digits 1 to 9 once each.
  • Numbered rooms: clues outside the grid indicate the digit which has to be placed in the Nth cell in the corresponding direction, where N is the digit placed in the first cell in that direction. Example: if r6c9 is a 6, then because of the 7 clue the 6th cell counting from the east to the west in row 6, r6c4, is a 7.
  • X: an X between two cells means that the digits in those cells must add up to 10. (Not all possible X-clues are necessarily given.)

Solution code: Row 5 and column 5. I.e. the 9 digits in row 5 from left to right, followed by the 9 digits in column 5 from top to bottom, for example: 123456789123456789

Ingenious puzzle. At more than one place I couldn't see how to solve this, but eventually I did find just enough to advance.

That was fun, esp the tricky endgame. Thanks for sharing, @ Qodec :).

Super tight logical path, feels like walking on a tightrope (not that I've ever done that). And the placement of the X's are exquisite.

Wonderful puzzle! I missed a key deduction yesterday and had to come back to it this morning, but once I saw it the rest flowed like butter.

Clever from start to finish; absolutely a joy to solve. And although I will admit to being a little slow spotting some deductions, I never once felt stuck. Very nice!

Very nice! I set two of these recently too,
id=0008Q2 id=0008GP
have you seen them?
I really enjoy this type, but it doesn't seem to be that common. Good to see someone else setting one of these too!

@Lizzy01 Ooh I did not! Added to queue, thank you!
