Rectangle City

(Published on 9. January 2022, 21:30 by panthchesh)

Normal Sudoku Rules apply.

159 expanded rules apply to every column: Digits in the Nth column indicate in which column the digit N is placed in the respective row. Eg if R3C2 is a 5, the fifth column in the third row (R3C5) must contain a 2.

Box index rectangles apply: The square boxes index the position within the box of the box number. For instance, if R3C2 was a 1, and R1C1 was an 8, then R1C1 would have a box around it because R3C2 is the in the 8th position of the box.
Boxes can be numbered/indexed as follows:
1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9

Column index rectangles apply: The long vertical rectangles index the row for that column number. For instance if R3C2 was a 7 and R7C2 was a 2 (notice the 2 matches the column) then the 7 would have a long vertical rectangle on it -- since the 2 in that column appears in row 7.

If the two types of rectangles would overlap each other, then only one of the two is shown.

Thanks to Andrewsarchus for the Column index rectangles and Box index rectangles.

Beautiful puzzle - interesting logic. I had the "Purple Frog"experience too - misread the rules, but fortunately when I corrected myself (a) most of the nice logic I had found survived and (b) there was a really good flow through the puzzle.

After misreading the rules about a dozen times, I finally got to grips with it! It was worth the heartache, such a beautiful puzzle. Hard but beautiful.

Really unusual and interesting logic! Took me a while to get a grip of it, but after that it flowed smoothly. Thanks Panthera :)

This is a great puzzle, with some very beautiful logic, and a very beautiful minimalistic look.
