Normal sudoku rules apply. Adjacent digits on a green whispers line must have a difference of five or greater. For clarity, there is a horizontal whispers line in row 7, and a separate 3-cell diagonal in box 9. Digits on a grey thermometer must strictly increase from the bulb end. Numbers outside the grid indicate the sum of the digits on their indicated diagonal. Digits on these diagonals may repeat when otherwise allowed. I think this puzzle is one star for difficulty for many solvers. As always, comments appreciated!
Solution code: First row of puzzle, and fourth column of puzzle (read top to bottom). Enter as a string of 18 digits, no spaces.

Definitely more challenging for me than the other 1-star puzzles I've completed by PDN777. I think 2-star would be more accurate. But still thoroughly enjoyable. Thank you.

yeah it needed an epiphany or two to push through the middle, so newer solvers might find this a bit tougher than usual 1-2 stars, but there's no specific special trick to the solve.
