Placement Puzzle 1

(Published on 26. December 2021, 14:42 by karencarpenter)

Fill in all the blue squares with X's or hyphens such that:
1. The numbers in the green squares/rectangles denote how many X's are in its row(s) and column(s).
2. Those squares without an X are marked with a hyphen.
3. No guessing is required.
(This is the first of 2 introductory puzzles for players to be familiarized with this puzzle type.)

Solution code: Enter the number of X's in each row, then each column, yielding 6 digits.

thought it was straight forward, thought i had the answer, put in solution. it was wrong. tried thinking bout it differently repeatedly and every answer i put in is still wrong. i feel like i'm missing some form of important information. tried doing your more difficult puzzles to see if i could figure it out from that but honestly no. i just really don't understand whats expected. saw people in comments saying they struggled to input the answer correctly despite having right answer and i feel like that's what i'm doing wrong it has to be.

I did a search for easiest puzzles I've no solved yet. This was the first. And it's not a trick, this is really the easiest puzzle here, I think. :)
(I know it that it's just a sample to help understand the rules)

figuring out how the solution code worked took longer than the puzzel...

When you can solve a puzzle in 5 seconds in your head, it is probably too easy to be satisfying.

The biggest challenge for me is apparently just entering the solution properly :D

I feel like the ruleset could be interesting, but I agree with dugong that it's difficult to get a good feel for it at this reduced grid size.

edit: Oh and thanks to TJReds for the penpa link. If not for that I wouldn't have realized I was literally just typing the solution in wrong :D

Nice Tutorial. But this can easily be within the description of Placement Puzzle 2 as an example ;)

I think this could be a good puzzle idea with a very simple ruleset, but it definitely needs a much larger puzzle before it starts to be challenging enough to be fun.
