Friendly Minesweeper

(Published on 24. November 2021, 08:36 by starwarigami)

A collaboration with thatotherdavidguy, building off his awesome original concept.

Just like the classic Windows game, your task is to identify the location of all the mines within the sudoku grid

  • A cell contains a mine if it contains a "friendly" digit, i.e. one that matches its row, column, or box number.
  • Digits in circles are the number of mines in the 8 surrounding cells.
  • Cells with circles may also contain a mine, but it will not be included in that circle's count.
  • Digits along an arrow sum to the digit in the connected circle.
  • All valid circles are given, but not all mines are necessarily seen.

Very nice puzzle, but looking at the tricky rules and the need to be very vigilant all thru, the difficulty rating is at least a 4, at least for me.

Thanks for these puzzles, @starwarigami :)

@Doziam: The first part is correct. But then you are hard to understand. Which cells you mean with "two cells to the right": R6C8 and R6C9? Where do you use the negative constraint? Check your conclusion for the position of the 9!

@Prutsbeest: If you switch it, the circle-condition for R3C3 isn't fullfilled.

I really love this variant; both puzzles are great. As someone who sets puzzles that are somewhat similar in terms of digit-trimming-over-here-affecting-squares-over-there, this is right in my wheelhouse, but I still find the variant challenging and (of course) very enjoyable. Big-time kudos.

@manushand Thanks for the kind words!

Really lovely puzzle! I enjoyed the interaction between the minesweeper clues and the arrows. Was stuck for a while towards the end until I decided to reread the rules more carefully :-)
