XV Clicks/Broken Abacus (XV 159)
(Published on 19. November 2021, 17:05 by tallcat)
Coming today with a pair of puzzles. I created these a few weeks apart but they complement each other so well, it was obvious to put them together. Continuing to alternate between easier and tougher puzzles, these should both be pretty approachable I think. Happy solving!
XV Clicks
Normal Sudoku rules apply
XV: Cells separated by an X must sum to 10. Cells separated by a V must sum to 5. Not all X's and V's are given (no negative constraint)
159: Digits in column 1 indicate the column in which the digit 1 appears in that row (e.g. if r4c1 is a 6, r4c6 is a 1). The same applies to columns 5 and 9, with the digits 5 and 9 respectively.

Broken Abacus
Normal Sudoku rules apply
XV: Cells separated by an X must sum to 10. Cells separated by a V must sum to 5. Not all X's and V's are given (no negative constraint)
Broken 159: Shaded red cells in column 1 indicates the position of 1 in the same row (e.g. if R5C1 is a 6, R5C6 is a 1). The same is true of columns 5 and 9, regarding the digits 5 and 9, respectively. These rules apply ONLY to shaded red cells. (e.g. If R1C1 is 4, then R1C4 cannot be 1)

Nice and straightforward solve - really enjoyed both, especially the use of the negative constraint in Broken Abacus

Getting two Tallcat puzzles in one presents quite the conundrum: the site will only let me select "very nice" once.

Both puzzles are very nice but I was especially surprised that Broken Abacus could have a unique solution with so few XV clues. The broken 159 constraint was used very nicely.
