Excellent puzzle. Solving it felt like unfolding (or perhaps folding?) an elegant piece of origami. Thanks for this.
I was also intrigued by this constraint, so I made a little tribute/remix, which can be found here: https://logic-masters.de/Raetselportal/Raetsel/zeigen.php?id=00087K

Superb! I like everything about this puzzle: the rule set harmony, the non-symmetrical layout, the break-in, and how the difficulty decreased slowly until the end.

Thought the king's moves would be annoying, but they work quite well with this puzzle. I only found it to be perhaps 2/5 for difficulty, but still very enjoyable

Wayyyy harder than I expected, but then I saw the author's name. More brilliance from DiMono, the incredible setter. Took 34:01.
