Monotonic X-Sums

(Published on 19. December 2021, 14:00 by djorr)

Sequel to Increasing X-Sums. Enjoy!

Rules: Normal sudoku rules apply. Digits along thermometers must increase from the bulb end. Numbers outside the grid give the sum of the first X digits in that row or column where X is the first digit seen.

Variant: The digits that add to the X-sum clue must be in either increasing or decreasing order from the X. For example, if an X-sum clue was 21, you cannot have 4+3+5+9 because 4-3-5-9 is not in increasing or decreasing order.

The puzzle looks hard from the appearance but is actually quite easy. Moreover, I enjoyed it thoroughly from start to finish... what a smooth solve!

Exactly right Hecspeed! The same can be said about the Increasing X-Sums puzzle too (well, the beginning part at least, about it looking hard but being easy). Thanks for the solve, I really appreciate it!

Excellent puzzle, it's interesting that it was the regular sudoku in the end that made it slightly harder :D
.
.
Thanks aruvi! Haha yeah that was kind of the same thing that happened in "Increasing X-Sums" too. I appreciate the solve! :)
