Carbon Paper (Compass Copies #2)

Standard Sudoku Rules Apply

Odd Dot
The digit in the square with a gray circle is odd.

Kropki Pairs
Digits on either side of a white dot are consecutive; one of them is one greater than the other. Digits on either side of a black dot are in a 2:1 ratio; one of them is twice the other.

Compass Cells
Each Compass cell each points to a target cell. In the Compass Cell, the direction to the target cell is given by a compass heading (north, south, etc.) and the distance, in cells away from the target, is given by the digit.

Any and all Kropki dots on a Compass Cell are copied onto its target cell. Similarly, all kropki dots on a target cell are also copied onto its Compass Cell. This means that in the finished puzzle, every target cell will have the exact same arrangement of kropki dots on its edges as its compass cell has.

Cells with Question-Marks
These are Compass Cells for which the solver must determine the compass direction.

EXAMPLE
Suppose R1C1 is a Compass Cell marked with SE (south-east) and contains the digit 2. This points to R3C3, being two cells south-east of R1C1, so in the finished puzzle, R1C1 and R3C3 will have the exact same configuration of kropki dots on their edges.

NOTES
FIRST, there is no negative constraint. In the finished puzzle, there may be many places where kropki-pair dots could be drawn, but have not been.

SECOND, in the finished puzzle, every drawn dot will be a copy (perhaps of a copy of a copy...) of one of the four given dots that are initially on the grid. During the solve, no "new" dots should ever be introduced simply due to numerical relationships that a digit might have with the digit in any neighboring square.

THIRD, the digit in a Compass Cell is limited to the distance to the edge of the grid. So if R5C5 is a compass cell, it can only contain 1-4. Furthermore, since Kropki dots cannot be placed on the outer edge of the grid, this means that if R1C2 were a Compass Cell with a dot on its left-hand edge, it could not possibly have the direction West or Southwest.

Changed name of the variant to "Compass Copies" because it will be applied to more than just kropki dots!

I love the compass rules. This one was a bit harder than the last one, but very interesting

manushand: Thank you, @Puffke! I'm so glad you like the variant! I will be using it for more things than kropki dots soon, and I have heard that at least one other puzzle setter may start using Compass Copying in the puzzles that he creates also!
