4'33"

(Published on 28. September 2021, 15:35 by ndsurgenor)

  • Normal sudoku rules apply to the first 9 rows (i.e. the 9x9 grid) but not the 10th
  • The 10th row contains all digits from 1-9 and does not affect the 9x9 grid by sudoku; rather, a digit in this row indicates that the same digit is found in the equivalently valued row of that particular column e.g. a 4 in row 10 means that 4 is found in the 4th row of that same column in the 9x9 grid
  • Cages must sum to either 3,4,33,43 or 433 and those within the 9x9 grid may not contain repeated digits; for clarity, the large blue cage covers the entire 9x9 grid and the first five cells of row 10
  • Cells separated by a white dot contain consecutive digits; not all dots are necessarily given

Solution code: Column 7 and Column 8 (20 digits)

I was very excited about this puzzle, because John Cage is very important to me. I loved it! I had to start over a couple of times though :D

This was lovely! The sums are very well chosen, and it took a little while for the logic induced by the bottom row to come together, but then it worked out.

REPLY: Thanks very much!
And... nice pun! :-)

Very nice puzzle! For the solution code, you should specify whether or not row 10 is to be included.
