Wichtel 2020 (9): Downhill

(Published on 28. September 2021, 00:22 by wichtel)

To Christmas 2020 some eager puzzlefriends have again arranged a group in which everybody had to make anonymously a puzzle for someone else. These puzzles are now presented one after the other here in the portal.

Last winter, things were completely different. Even one of the most beloved hobbies of the gnomes (besides puzzling), namely skiing, was sadly also not permitted. Several gnomes took this as an opportunity to transform their route planning into puzzle form, in hopes of not encountering too many humans when the slopes were finally re-opened.

The first route comes from the gnome Nuri. His ski trail runs from the arrow at the top to the arrow at the right. In between, no 2x2 area can belong entirely to the trail, and all cells that don't belong to the trail form orthogonally continuous groups that each contain a number corresponding to the size of the region. Such regions may not touch each other orthogonally, of course, but diagonally is permitted.

A second effort is from the gnome Sura. She also created a route from the peak to the foot of the mountain. In addition, she constructed several gates which all have to be crossed exactly once in a straight perpendicular line. A number next to a gate indicates which ordinal position that gate takes in the sequence in which the gates are crossed.

Now the two of them will scramble into their starting blocks, once they are allowed to try their routes in the real world.

Solution code: First for the upper puzzle, then for the lower: for each row, the length of the longest horizontal path segment, i.e., the number of cell borders crossed in that segment. The step out of the diagram is not counted.

@Statistica: Yes, sometimes we are prisoners of our own mental constraints.....

@sf2l: a) it's like a snake, yes. b) no connection. Independent puzzles (besides the shape)

Can Nuri's trail branch or is it a snake - like trail?
Is there any connection between NUri's and Suri's trials?

Das waren ja zwei witzige Abfahrten. Vielen Dank!

Nurikabe in Verbindung mit einem Weg finde ich
eine ausgesprochen gute Idee. Beim Suraromu bin ich immer sehr zwiegespalten.
