The Spandex Sandwich

(Published on 4. September 2021, 10:09 by PrimeWeasel)

Normal Sudoku rules apply
Spandex Sandwich rules apply - Digits outside the grid show the sum for the digits between 1 and 9 for that row or column, but they also show the sum of the first X digits seen from that direction, where X is flexible. (In order to avoid confusion, this is not like X-sums where the first digit X determines the amount of digits for the shown sum, with the Spandex there is an unknown succession of digits leading to the sum shown outside the grid)

What a sublime puzzle, I always love when puzzles create a small set of axioms internal to the ruleset that aid with the solve. There'll be numbers in my dreams after this one.

~ I hope you slept well! Based on your remark, you seem to have found the intended way. Thanks for solving!

This was quite a workout for the memory banks! Not something one sees every day.

Absolutely brilliant. i loved how the logic fell into place once I got the hang of it. There are lots of creative, powerful deductions you can make with the ruleset, and this takes full advantage of them

Very nice but also quite challenging puzzle, one of those moments where I was not even certain at my own calculations because I was afraid that I might break the puzzle at any moment. Very clever and tight construction, thank you! :)

Really tough, so many steps and combinations of different logic needed to get going - if that's considered the break-in, then this was one of the most complicated (though not necessarily the most difficult) break-in I've never made.

~ the break-in is probably easier than the path you took, but it is an a-typical break-in, and easy to miss, therefore turning this puzzle into a really tough cookie. Well done and thanks for solving nonetheless! I'll post a hidden comment with the break-in
