Double Trouble - Skyscrapers

(Published on 25. August 2021, 17:01 by Mad-Tyas)

The third puzzle in the Double Trouble series.
This time the Double Trouble rule is presented in combination with skyscrapers.

I would like to make this series my central project and find out what can be gotten out of the Double Trouble variant (more information below the puzzle). Therefore, any feedback is very welcome :)

Rules:

Sudoku: Fill every row, column and 3x3 box with the digits 1-9.

Skyscraper: Each digit represents a skyscraper of that height. A skyscraper blocks the view on all skyscraper up to the same height that stand behind it. A clue outside the grid give the number of skyscrapers seen from that direction in the corresponding row or column.

Double Trouble: The skyscrapers in cells marked with a blue diamond have the double high according to the digit in the cell (i.e. a 5 in a marked cell represents a skyscraper of height 10). Due to this rule it is possible to have two skyscrapers of the same height in a row or column (f.e. a standard 6 and a 3 in a marked cell). In this case only one of them is visible.

Have fun solving!

Preview:

I will present other common rule variants as double-trouble versions. These puzzles are all meant to be relatively easy and to introduce the logic provided by the Double Trouble rule. On this basis I will then try to present beautiful, exciting, special Double Trouble sudokus.

Solution code: Row 3 followed by column 3 (18 digits)

Happy to see this get rated! Lovely puzzle - thanks.

-Reply: Thanks a lot for pushing it over the threshold! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I hope I can come up with another Double Trouble skyscraper puzzle soon. I'm working on a ruleset that works with hidden doubles that must be determined by the solver like Sudoku Explorer suggested in his comment.

Really fun to solve! It leads to some interesting conclusions, thanks :-)

For a future puzzle idea, maybe you can make one where the solver has to discover which cells are doubled (a bit like these Glass Skyscraper puzzles id=0004EG or id=0004DA, or by having a fixed number of doubling cells per row/column).

- Thanks for solving it and the kind feedback!
Variants where the solver has to determine the doubling cells I had in mind right after I started thinking about this rule. They will definitely come :)
