Sudoku Variants Series (335) - Sudoku Dot.com

(Published on 25. August 2021, 00:00 by Richard)

For this Sudoku Variants Project I have planned to publish a different Sudoku variant every week. I will see how long it takes before I am running out of ideas.

Sudoku Dot.com
Apply classic sudoku rules.
A plus sign on the intersection of four cells indicates that both pairs of diagonally opposite pairs of digits have the same sum. A minus sign indicates that those both pairs have the same difference. All possible plus and minus signs are given.

Inspiration for this type comes from PrimeWeasel.

Solve online in Penpa+ (thx again to Henry!)

Solution code: Row 2, followed by column 2.

@PrimeWeasel: the connon sudoku is indeed on my list of possible SVS's (Which is a veeeeery long list currently :-) )
Connon is a bit like other types I did before, but can be distuinghished well enough to make it a type on itself.

@Future DiMono: well done! Solving PrimeWeasel's puzzle immediately brought me to this intrinsic logic and applied it here too.

It took me a while to figure out what this puzzle is actually about, which made it much harder for me than it should have been. I think I'll go back and do it again with that in mind from the start, see how it goes. But that's a job for future DiMono.

Edit: Future DiMono here. I was right: this puzzle was significantly easier when I had the right thing in mind from the beginning. I'm going to leave my 4/5 difficulty rating though, as it may take a while to realize what the right thing to look at is.

Very well implemented Richard, resolved smoothly! You might want to have a look at my Connon puzzles and see if you'd come up with anything else for that particular ruleset. Thanks for making this one! And yes, incognito Hollander.
