I rated this 4/5 difficulty.

Very cool puzzle with a lot of interesting ideas! I thought the break-in was the hardest part of this puzzle. The actual logic for the puzzle itself was fairly approachable, but it was VERY difficulty for me to get started on the solve. I tried a bunch of ideas at the beginning for around 10 minutes but really didn't make much progress. I just couldn't figure out what I was supposed to be looking for. Break in was 5/5 difficulty for me, as I just couldn't figure out where to start until I experimented around for a while.

Once I figured out how to start coloring/notating cells/combinations and spent some time thinking about 14-cage combinations, I could start coloring cells and transferring the logic around the whole puzzle.

Strangely, the coloring logic was quite approachable (fairly easy/straightforward) AFTER I figured out where to start. The actual coloring logic felt around 3/5 difficulty for me. It was quite a process to color all of the cages (and the rest of the grid) - but I never felt like it was particularly difficult at any given point, and I didn't get stuck anywhere either. I just kept making regular progress throughout the entire mid/end-game, which was very pleasant as the pacing kept me consistently engaged. The way coloring and the killer cages interacted was nice and was a straightforward fallback for when I wasn't able to find/use any additional classic coloring logic.

Since I struggled quite a bit to get started with notating/coloring, I tilted my puzzle difficulty rating towards 4/5.

Overall, the puzzle had very consistent pacing and was very engaging. I did, indeed, learn a lot about 4-cell killer cages that sum to 14. The break-in was tough to get started with, but the rest of the solve was smooth. Great puzzle!

Amazing puzzle! I think I solved this a few years ago, before I had an LMD account. It was fun to revisit this classic.

This puzzle and “Ten Knights”, they are both extremely clever, very hard, and very fun puzzles.

All I can say is, "oh my god". I spent several hours on this puzzle. It at some point in the solve targeted all of my weaknesses. But every second I spent was worth it. I enjoyed the idea, and I now see 14 cages in a whole new light.
