Hidden Cages

(Published on 19. July 2021, 07:21 by kuraban)

1. Standard Sudoku rules apply.

2. EVERY clue should also be treated as a cage, with every cage having a different, unique, total. This also means that every other clue must also obey the rule that digits may not repeat.

3. Standard thermometer rules apply. Digits must increase along the thermometer away from the bulb.

4. Standard arrow rules apply. Digits along the arrow must sum to the number in the circle. The bulb and the arrow are both included for the purposes of rule 2, in determining the total of the ‘cage’.

5. The green lines are german whispers clues, where every digit must be at least 5 different from its neighbours.

6. The red lines are renban clues, where every digit must be consecutive, though not necessarily in order.

I landed on this puzzle during a random search, and I am glad I did! This is a splendid ruleset; very challenging but great fun. Surely deserves more solves. Thanks, @ kuraban :).

Thanks for the feedback guys, I really appreciate it. I've always found it a challenge to accurately assess the difficulty of my own puzzles, but I've taken your feedback into account and made that adjustment.

First of all, I love this idea. It's fun to make different types of clues interact through such a global rule.
I do agree with DiMono that the difficulty is severely underestimated. It is probably best to adjust it, as it will attract the people that are looking for a difficult challenge.
The main thing that made this puzzle hard for me was that it was often unclear where the next step was to be found. So, if you want it to be more smooth, you could try to enhance the linearity of the solve or telegraph steps better, such that there is less (random) hopping around the grid required.
Nevertheless, I did enjoy the challenge and the ruleset. Finding the logic was very satisfying.

I believe you have seriously underestimated the difficulty of this puzzle. It took me almost three hours.
