Thermo/Renban/Odd Mix-up

(Published on 11. June 2021, 19:56 by brandon_bot)

This puzzle is a sequel to Thermo/Palindrome/Odd Mix-up.

Preamble:

The problem with creating a puzzle using thermometer, Renban, and odd cell constraints is that a Renban line with a single odd cell constraint looks very similar to a thermometer. Fortunately, I remembered to write down which was which while creating the puzzle. Unfortunately, it turns out I was holding my pencil upside down and writing with the eraser end the entire time! What a disaster!

Rules:

  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Normal little killer rules apply (the numbers along the indicated diagonal must sum to the given total). Digits may repeat along the diagonal.
  • For each circle and its intersecting line, either:
    1. They represent thermometers with the circle as the bulb (numbers on a thermometer must strictly increase as they move away from the bulb).
    2. The circle must contain an odd digit and the line (which extends into the circle) is a Renban line (lines must contain a set of consecutive, non-repeating digits in any order).

Happy solving!

Hint 1: Focus on the leftmost three columns to start the puzzle.

Hint 2: If you get stuck either somewhere in the middle of the puzzle or towards the end, try coloring a certain pair of digits.

Solution code: Row 5 from left to right followed by column 9 from top to bottom.

The rules were worded on the premise that there is a singular line piercing each circle.

Reworded description to hopefully be clearer.

To make the rules more clear: If two lines starts from a circle, either all cells together are _one_ renban group, or there are two thermos, starting from the circle.

This puzzle deserves more solvers!
