Parity Party Renban Sudoku — 'Party Bot'

(Published on 31. May 2021, 16:05 by PixelPlucker)

Among the curious denizens of the Sudoku dimension is the eccentric Party Bot.
You’d think he’s fun at parties, but there's an even chance he'll just ask you odd conundrums...
This is my light-hearted take on glum_hippo's weird and wonderful Parity Party variant ruleset!
I hope you find it pleasant to solve :)
  • Normal sudoku rules apply.
  • Parity Party: Numbers outside the grid indicate the sum of digits encountered from that direction, up to and including the first odd digit or the first even digit. (Single-digit clues may simply indicate the value of the first digit.)
  • Renban: Each group of cells connected by lines must contain a set of consecutive, non-repeating digits, in any order.
(Examples of properly fulfilled Parity Party clues may be found here.)

You can try this puzzle online using f-puzzles or Penpa+. Enjoy!

Solution code: Row 7, column 4 (18 digits in total)

Exceptional! I had a blast screwing up on several occassions! It turns out 7 is not only consecutive to 8!

Very nice! I had a similar experience to Magnus: a tricky start that is rewarded with a nice and smooth solve path.

**Thank you Mark! :)

Great puzzle! The start was a little bit tricky for me, after that it flowed very smoothly. The solution path is very clear and distinct; it is not always obvious where to look to find it, but very satisfying once you do.

**Thank you for the solve and the kind feedback, Magnus! I’ve been slightly concerned about the clarity of the starting move(s), but I’m glad that people have still managed to make the right restrictions. I’m really happy that you found the solve satisfying! :)

**Thank you, Hawila! Glad you enjoyed :)

Very nice! Good idea to combine Parity party with Renban lines - made for some really nice interactions. Overall, it felt like a very linear solution path.

**Thank you for solving and the lovely comment, Jesper! :)

This makes terrific use of both constraints, but it's a pretty challenging puzzle for first-time parity partygoers. Definitely worth the effort, though, in my opinion. (I was among the tester group for this puzzle, hence my "fast" solving time) Lovely theme, too!
