Wormholes

(Published on 11. May 2021, 07:17 by Nordy)

This is my first puzzle. I hope you enjoy! Solve on f-puzzles here.

Rules:

  1. Normal Sudoku rules apply.
  2. Wormholes: clues in cages indicate the number of digits that form “wormholes” with other boxes. A wormhole is formed between two boxes when a digit’s position in its box (box A) matches the digit in the central cell of another box (box B), where the digit’s position in box A matches box B’s position in the grid. Visual examples help - see Diagram 1 below.
  3. Sequence positions: clues outside the grid indicate the number of digits in each corresponding row/column that match their positions in the consecutive sequence 1-9, where the sequence starts at 1 in the clue’s adjacent cell and travels across the grid. Visual examples help - see Diagram 2 below.

Diagram 1: Wormholes

The 3 in Box 1 is in the top right cell, so it forms a wormhole with the central cell of the top right box. The 2 in Box 1 is in the middle left cell, so it forms a wormhole with the central cell of the middle left box.

Diagram 2: Sequence positions

The 4 on the right side of Row 7 indicates that 4 digits in that row match their positions on the sequence 1-9, where the sequence starts at 1 in the cell adjacent to the 4 and travels left across the grid. The digits 1, 2, 6, and 9 match their positions.

Solution code: Row 6 followed by Column 9

That was a ride. A long ride. 2 hours and 50 minutes of great ideas. Definitely not 3-stars, but very good indeed. Thank you Nordy, it was a lovely start for my Sudok-a-thon!
