Cageless (X) Killer Sudoku no. 4

(Published on 10. May 2021, 12:57 by Shinya)

Hi everybody,

it has been a while, but I finally constructed another cageless (X) killer sudoku. Have fun!

Rules:

Standard sudoku rules apply. In addition, cells are grouped in 'cages'. A 'cage' is a group of orthogonally adjacent cells. Numbers must not repeat in a cage. Cages must not overlap.

The clues outside the grid in the form of m(n) indicate, that the x-th cell of the row/column is part of a cage with the sum of m, consisting of n cells. X is the first number in the row/column. In the example below, the clue 7(2) indicates that the x-th cell (in this case: the 2nd cell) is part of a cage adding up to 7, consisting of 2 cells.

There is a logical solution path.

Solution code: Row 2, Column 7

Incredible! I love it when a puzzle this intricate slowly and surely comes together! :)

Btw, if you're struggling to find the logical break-in, there is a CTC video called "the puzzling anti-dote to self-isolation" where Simon does the no. 1 puzzle of this variant.

@henrypijames
Yes, the rules don't require every cell to belong to a cage.

The rules don't require every cell to belong to a cage (unlike the example) - am I getting this right?

Welcome back, Shinya! Thanks for this wonderful puzzle.

Don't mind my hidden comment. I deleted that after marcmees solved this puzzle. I hope to be able to count properly in the future. :)
