Build Your Own Kropki

(Published on 1. May 2021, 16:24 by BMEP)

Rules:

● Normal sudoku rules apply.

● A white dot between two cells indicate that those cells are consecutive digits.

● A white dot in the middle of a cell indicates the beginning of a line of length N (bigger than 1) (completely vertical or horizontal) of consecutive digits, where N is the digit diametrically opposed to the direction that the line grows. (N, the dot and the line of consecutive digits form a straight line)

● A black dot in the middle of a cell indicates the beginning of a line of length N (bigger than 1) (completely vertical or horizontal) of digit in a 1:2 ratio, where N is the digit diametrically opposed to the direction that the line grows. (N, the dot and the line of digits in a 1:2 ratio form a straight line)

(no negative constraint apply.)

Example:

In the example above, the black dot on R2C2 is fulfilled, because R2C2, R2C3 and R2C4 form a line of digits in a 1:2 ratio (of length 3), and R2C1 is equal to the length of the line.

The same goes for R2C6, as seen, R2C6, R3C6 and R4C6 forms a line of consecutive digits (of length 3), and R1C6 is equal to the length of the line.

But, the clue on R5C2 it is NOT fulfilled, the only line of digits in a 1:2 ratio that come out of the dot is composed by R5C2 and R5C3 (N is 2), so R5C1 should be 2, as opposed of 5.

The puzzle:

Play it on f-puzzles (using gray dots to not to interfere with pencil marks)

(That's actually a repost. I had a HTML bug in the German version after editing the last one.)

Solution code: column 8, column 9 (top-bottom)

Long time no see, welcome back! :D I saw that you had started solving again when you solved Antlion, so I figured it'd be a good time to revisit this one, which I couldn't solve back then, but surely I've improved since haha. Still it wasn't anywhere near 'walk in the park' territory, but I never felt stuck and all in all it was a pretty smooth solve. This is a really great, really creative puzzle, and I'll keep recommending it so hopefully it stays alive!

Not too hard, but rather tricky and full of nice logic. I agree (with Zombie Hunter's) that the rules should be clarified (concerning the maximality of N), otherwise there can be two solutions.

Rules clarification: N must be bigger than 1

Regelklärung: N muss größer als 1 sein

Got it! Fun puzzle, not use to this variant so lots of new logic for me to work through. Not overly difficult but certainly requires some thinking! Thanks for the puzzle, I always enjoy your creations :)

~Thank you so much! And thanks for the feedback! You made my day... I was starting to doubt it was worthy to be left on the portal... I'm glad you liked!

Is it correct to assume that N > 1 in all cases?

~Yeah, it is... maybe I should add that in. It would maybe induce the right kind of thinking towards this puzzle... Thanks! :) And sorry for not helping out earlier...
