Cells connected by a dot must sum up to the same total as any other group of cells connected with a dot of the same colour.
Two colours cannot have the same sum.
The characters in the circles are there to differentiate the colours from each other and serve no other purpose.

*** I’m sorry for the confusion. There are a couple of somewhat intricate steps but it sure is not a 5-star puzzle.
I think 4 stars is accurate. Possibly a hard 3-star puzzle :-)
