Bigger Dot X-sum

The clues outside the grid are X-sum clues.
They give the sum of the X first digits in that row or column where the digit X is the cell next to the clue.
Clues of the same colour have the same value +- the digit in the circle.
Opposite X-sum clues never overlap.
Thank you to Bigger for suggestions on improvements of the puzzle to take it's final form.

Unfortunately, I don't get the rules. After I had an idea on how it could work, I got my first digit after about an hour, but it was unsolvable then. So I think I got the rules wrong. Could you make an example on how this works, please? I think it might be a really good puzzle. But without understanding the rules, it is all for nothing.

good puzzle, once you see the break in, it will flow smoothly
