Map to Ouroboros

(Published on 29. March 2021, 12:29 by MallowTheCloud)

Normal sudoku rules apply. The position p of each digit x in box y maps onto box x, position y. In other words, for each box y, digits x in the box give the position of the digit y in the box corresponding to the position of the digit x in box y. Thanks to jettyx for this alternate description: Digit A in position B of box C must match to digit C in position A of box B.

Puzzle can be solved at f-puzzles.

Here is an example mapping fives to the grid (this is just an example for fives, and other digits will not work in this example):

(This feels like an idea that would have been created already, but upon a cursory search I did not find a similar puzzle here. I don't even know how I'd search for a puzzle of this type, though.)

Solution code: An 18-digit string of values corresponding to row 8, then column 3

@damasosos92: I'm glad you enjoyed it! I think the fourth I'm the series is my favorite, so if you try just one more, make it that one!

Adjusting difficulty to "easy" in line with the five given digit version.

on 30. March 2021, 16:58 by MallowTheCloud
Thanks for the feedback, filuta and BMEP! I agree that the puzzle is much more tractable with the five given digits, and that it's probably more a two-star difficulty puzzle now.

very nice puzzle!

Thanks a lot for the puzzle, I wasn't able to solve the original version, but with the added digits, it was a very pleasant solve (three stast are probably too much for the current version). Great idea!

New (corrected) solution code.

@marcmees, I'm new to this, so I chose a single cell value as the solution code, but you're absolutely right that that string corresponds to Row 7 and Column 4. I will update the solution code.
