Take the first real cover

(Published on 26. March 2021, 01:39 by bigger)

Standard sudoku rules applies. Fill the grid with numbers from 1 to 6 so each digit occurs exactly once in every row, column and 2x3 box.

Skyscraper rule applys. Each digit in the grid is a building of its height. Digit outside is the first digit that can't be seen/first to be blocked from that direction.

One more, why not.

This puzzle is made by Old Miles from China. The ideacomes from Old Miles. He think previous one wasn't real enough, so here we go.

I know what you're thinking, The second one looks impossible. It's definitely the weirdest outside clue I've ever seen. Some spoiler, the next puzzle would be a 9X9 of this idea. And it's going to be a 5 star. So I strongly suggest you juice as many tricks as you can from these two 6X6

Solution code: Row 3 column 6 of the first one then the same with the second one.(24 digits)

It felt a little tricky to open up, but then it went smoothly. I really enjoyed the theme in the second puzzle! :-)

I haven't solved a first hidden skyscraper sudoku for quite a while. I'll definitely try these soon!

Those interested may also want to try Feadoor's variation where all odd clues are given (id=00037K) or Laura Soler's puzzle on CTC (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Q9E_AUdzN0).

Bigger: Pre-flood puzzle. That's why I didn't recall seeing one. Interesting.

I found it frustratingly hard to pencil-mark my deductions with this ruleset, and I felt if a more efficient way of pencil-marking could be invented, it would help enormously in the solving process.

Since these were just 6×6, I took the radical approach and center-marked 123456 into all cells right from the start, and eliminated whatever was ruled out. I doubt I can do this effectively in a 9×9 - but I'm very much looking forward to that puzzle.

Bigger: Good strategy. I hope you have found some ways or tricks to eliminate. I think most people can found the reverse trick of skyscraper. Start eliminating big number pencil mark doesn't looks that good, doesn't it.
