A BAD IDEA

(Published on 31. January 2021, 12:10 by PrimeWeasel)

Normal Sudoku and Killer rules apply

However, in Killer Sudoku, it is A BAD IDEA to fill a cage with digits that aren't all different, but in this grid are three 8-cell cages which do contain repeating digits. Other cages do not violate the normal rules

A G00D IDEA would be a 9-cell cage with repeating digits which would sum to 31, but there is no such cage in this puzzle for obvious reasons.

Finally figured how to go about this one, with no small thanks to the comment section, and especially Narayana’s hint. And while my solve certainly wasn’t the prettiest (still today I’m probably far worse at Killer than 2021 you lol), I have to say that no, this is not just a pretty good idea executed well, it is *literally* perfect. Very impressive stuff, both the idea and the execution!

Fun puzzle! Definitely a good idea if you ask me :-D

This is delightfully twisted. It's hard to evaluate the difficulty of this one... If you get it, I'd say 3/5, if you don't... Probably 10/5.

¡¡¡[Spoiler]!!!

If any body needs a very minimal starting hint I would recommend to try my very laid back puzzle id=0004DI
Then think backwards. :)

It's funny how brains work: I immediately understood one very important facet of the preamble and set to work on it, but the other half of the penny (ha'penny?) didn't drop until I was staring fruitlessly at a very colourful yet completely uninformative grid...

For what it's worth, I thought it was a pretty good idea that was executed well, and I did have fun solving it once I'd got the hang of it. No headaches here... and yep, just checked, none in the grid either...

~ The mind is a funny thing. Somehow some people see through something straight away, and others will never grasp it, and will just see this puzzle as having an annoyingly vague ruleset. But I get that one does not expect to figure the rules out first when you'd normally just go straight for the cages. Thanks for solving! Glad you liked it

Well, I did want to give it a go but I just do not understand what the rules are. You seem to be contradicting yourself.

~ Yes I am, that's why it's ABADIDEA.

The irony of a puzzle with the title A BAD IDEA and 0 solves is just too hilarious :)
