Japanese Sums Sudoku

(Published on 23. January 2021, 13:42 by Genomico)

Rules: Place the digits 1-9 exactly once in each row, column and 3x3 block. Additionally, shade some cells such that the clues outside the grid indicate the sums of the digits in contiguous blocks of white cells in the respective row or column. Every question mark represents a number (1-45). Blocks have to be separated by at least one shaded cell.

4x4 example:

The puzzle is also available on Penpa.

Enjoy solving :)

Solution code: Column 1 followed by column 2. Including the 'shaded' digits, so 18 digits in total.

Very nice puzzle and a good exercise for the SVS, I hope. Thank you for the sudoku, Genomico, and thank you for the hint, Richard.

Very, very nice!
Japanese sums are already on the list of potential SVS-candidates ever since I started the series in 2013. But I had in mind to create one in a 12x12 grid, with 3x4 boxes and three shaded cells in each row, column and box. But this variant is much more fun! Thanks a lot for this wonderful idea!

@HugoSimon: Looks good to me. Maybe there is a typo in your solution or you mixed up row and column?
