Residual Neighbours Sudoku I
(Published on 15. January 2021, 17:13 by Morla)
Normal Sudoku rules apply. In addition, the shading gives rise to a subordinate puzzle of Neighbours (cf.
Puzzlewiki on the original version) given by the digits' residue classes modulo 3. That is, a cell is shaded if and only if its value (in the finished solution) is not congruent modulo 3 to any of the values of its orthogonally adjacent cells. E.g., if a grey cell contains a 9, none of its orthogonally adjacent cells can contain a 3 or a 6; conversely, if a white cell contains a 9, then at least one of its orthogonally adjacent cells must contain a 3 or a 6.

I think this sudoku variant is new. At least I haven't seen it before, but it is entirely possible that I am just not aware of it; please let me know in the comments if it is known under another name.
