Fallian albino marsh worms
(Published on 4. January 2021, 00:34 by Jon Allan)
This puzzle was created for the Cracking The Cryptic Discord fan server's monthly "Puzzle Prompt" for Jan 2021, "broken puzzles".
Preamble:Oh, bobbins! After checking the correctness, while removing written digits and pencil marks, the two Fallian albino marsh worms I was using slid off the puzzle and have hence broken the answer to life, the universe and everything!
I can't recall their placement, but I do recall that 42 appeared exactly twice, and the regions summing to 42 are still written in, so you'll most likely be fine as long as you don't smoke the worms; and, of course, remember - Don't Panic!
Rules:
- Normal sudoku rules apply.
- Digits along connected lines sum to 42, repeated digits are allowed.
- The number 42 appears exactly twice (i.e. a two is the right-hand neighbour of a four in exactly two rows).
- There are two orthogonally connected worms which don't touch themselves or each other orthogonally. The worms start at each of the givens:
a) 4 : 6 2 4 9 1 9 5 8 2 3 5 1
b) 2 : 6 2 1 6 5 3 8 1 2 7 5 1 5 2 4 7
Solution code: Columns 8 and 9

They say the best thing you can do is to stay away from the marsh worms, but I'm glad I didn't listen (this time). I had a blast solving this (even without smoking). Very nice, especially for a broken puzzle. :)
