Yin-Yang Sudoku

(Published on 12. December 2020, 20:26 by Phistomefel)

This puzzle is a crossover of a Yin-Yang puzzle and a Sudoku. An inspiration for this puzzle was Quarterthru's wonderful Snake Sum series.

About the rules of the Yin-Yang Sudoku:
  • The usual Sudoku rules apply.
  • Some cells have to be colored grey.
  • All grey cells have to be orthogonally connected. All white cells have to be orthogonally connected, as well.
  • No 2x2-region may be completely covered by grey cells, or completely covered by white cells.
  • The clues outside of the grid indicate the sum of all grey cells in the respective row or column.
For illustration, here is an example on a 6x6 grid:

Here you find a link to the example.

If you are not yet familiar with the logic of Yin-Yang puzzles, I can recommend athin's lovely puzzle Yin-Yang - All-White as a start.

Now for the puzzle. It is available online via Penpa Plus, as well. Have fun solving!

Beautiful set with the yin yang constraint, that is probably more common nowadays than it used to when this was posted, or maybe this was even the first of the kind ? Did not feel too hard but still very enjoyable with great combinations of digits in the later part.

Needless to say how brilliantly constructed this puzzle is. Interestingly, it felt quite approachable, like 3/5. Maybe we weren't as used as these puzzles combinations back in 2020 as we are now, as trends are moving so fast

People who are afraid of Phistomefel's puzzles shouldn't be discouraged. Beautiful but not that hard. Thanks

Loved how it all came together!

I really loved this combination! I found the Yin-Yang part quite straightforward, but very enjoyable. Finishing up the Sudoku was a bit more tricky but the path was very elegant.
