Standard sudoku rules apply.
Disjoint group rules apply: no two cells in the same position relative to their box (i.e. R1C1 and R4C4) may contain the same digit.Note: there is a brute force mathematics way into the puzzle but that is not the intended solution. No complex calculations are required to solve the puzzle.

Looking at the hidden comments I did find the 'intended' solution path, which was very satisfying indeed. I did get by without help but I nevertheless needed some encouragement (goading?) from Qodec, after about a half-dozen abortive attempts in the last couple of years.

Very nice! :)
@Vebby: Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm very proud of this one, and it had been sitting in provisional ratings for over half a year, so thank you for getting it a proper rating.
@DiMono: My pleasure! Happy to see the excellent rating, most deservedly so :)

A very satisfying solve, but also a mild form or torture.
@SirWoezel Thanks for solving it! There is an extremely elegant solution for this puzzle, and I hope that's the one you eventually found.
